My Three Signs Your Office Chair Is Telling You It Needs Replacing!

My Three Signs Your Office Chair Is Telling You It Needs Replacing!

On my tour of workstation assessments over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of helping to correct, adjust and renew countless setups. With a trained eye, what’s obvious to me often isn’t to others — and I sometimes forget that your chair doesn’t come with an alarm or sand timer that pings when it needs fixing or replacing!

Here are my top three signs your chair needs an upgrade 👇

1️⃣ It’s noisy!

More knocks than a postman? Creaks and rattles from your chair suggest it’s losing structural integrity — screws and bolts are working loose, and components are wearing down. That noise isn’t just annoying; it’s your chair’s way of saying “help me.”

2️⃣ You’ve had to make your own modifications

If you’ve added sofa cushions to cover rips or stop your bum going numb, it’s time. The same goes for the dreaded lumbar bolsters — they tend to push you out of the chair and make you lose vital contact points that support your posture.

3️⃣ You’ve changed!

Like many prescriptions in life, we change over time — we get older, maybe heavier, or pick up injuries like back or neck pain. You wouldn’t keep the same trainers for 20 years through road and trail running, so why keep the same chair? You need the right equipment for the task.

So have a think about your chair — how is it holding up and serving you?
